Miscellaneous devices include portable electrical equipment, double insulated tools, extension lines, transformers, and electrical equipment that receives electricity through independent power lines. Insulation resistance testing for these devices is part of the periodic maintenance procedure and is also required by the OSHA and NEC standards.

Although the standard insulation resistance technical indicators can be used in most motor and other electrical devices, the specific environment requires the use of more stringent resistance technical indicators. Most of the technical specifications give the largest acceptable leakage current, not the actual resistance. For example, there must be enough insulation for 3 line handheld electrical appliances or tools, and the leakage current from the leakage part to the ground must not exceed 0.75 mA (0.00075 A).
